Species named after William Price, an amateur botanist who found the plant in the 1960s on Mt. Kinabalu when he was over 80 years old! See Meijer (1984, Blumea, 30:209-215).

Synonyms: R. schadenbergiana auct. non Goeppert.
R. tuan-mudae auct. non Beccari
